A highly efficient urban complex that integrates the main state dependencies

The vision for the Government Campus of Zacatecas was of an interdependent urban complex where all the essential State Government entities could operationally co-exist, where each building’s assembly and location was based on their strategic and functional inter-dependancy. Our innovative, world-leading, design and creation at Cerro del Gato ( Cat’s Hill) on the outskirts of Zacatecas, provides the perfect fusion of efficiency and functionality; ecological awareness and leading edge technology and high quality materials, without compromising safety and accessibility. Not only does the Government City of Zacatecas create a new benchmark for future city development, it pays homage to the rich architectural and archaeological legacy by integrating elements from the state’s cultural legacy.

Description

The Governmental Campus of the State of Zacatecas is comprised of the Secretary of Planning and Development, Secretary of the State, Auditorium, Legal Coordination, Secretary of Finance, Secretary of Interior, Secretary pro Development of the Family, Secretary for Public Work, Secretary of Health, Building of the Institutions, Parking Structure and an Outdoor Theater. The connected campus of independent building’s embrace advanced concepts in office space design and cutting edge technology to maximise efficiency, functionality, safety and sustainability.
The first axis connects the milestone at the hilltop to the main entrance of the compound and City entrance. This is composed as a modern abstraction of an aqueduct, and developed with reference to the existing historic one at the City of Zacatecas. The second composition axis of the project also begins at the milestone and in a terrace that directs the view towards the access of the City. Through these axes, plazas and walking paths interact, linking buildings and providing the natural flow of connections that the Architectural program and functionality demanded while simultaneously interacting with the natural landscape.

Preserving cultural references

The plazas reference the historical sites of Zacatecas and frame a dialogue between the modernity of today and the region’s rich historical and cultural past. Archeological references are made to the “Santa Monica Plaza”, the “Altavista Plaza” and the “Plaza de la Quemada”. With spaces that can be used to promote and create art, the “Sculptures Promenade” was proposed.

Accessibility

Exterior areas are conformed by a perimeter road that runs through the Campus. Pedestrian pathways are accessible for the disabled by interconnected buildings, plazas, ramps, exterior elevators, bridges and walking paths highlighted with sculptural elements and water mirrors.
